This person needs to have experience managing a news operation at some level (say at least three years), familiarity with international affairs, mastery of Western-style journalism, understanding of the Arabic media market all over the region, and complete fluency in written and spoken English as well as (probably) native Arabic (we could theoretically accept the reverse on the languages). The person would need to manage a staff of about 10, making schedules, sticking to budget, developing staff, appraising performance, and figuring out how to produce the product with the resources available. The person must work together with AP's global bureaus and regional desks as well as its photo and TV department (much of the market in the region is broadcast clients), and work to a budget. There would be long an d possibly unpredictable hours; this is a management position that is not connected to shifts.
